Do you find yourself frustrated because a Mind~Body approach “doesn’t work”?

You’ve done it all. The relaxation. The affirmations. The visualizing. And you still don’t have your baby.

What’s the missing key?

Often, we make the decision that we’re the missing key — but in a negative way.

We are somehow broken, defective, or out of favor with the Divine (Spirit, God, Goddess). The Truth that we’ve cleverly hidden from the rest of the world is finally on view for all to see — we aren’t enough and the fact that there isn’t a baby is the final physical evidence.

All of these convoluted thoughts is one of the reasons infertility is so painful. Not only do you not have the child you want, but you use it as proof to beat yourself up.

The fact of the matter is, the key to allowing a Mind~Body~Spirit focus to bring you the baby you want is simpler than you think.

Consistency.

Each day we have somewhere in the neighborhood of 60,000 thoughts.

60,000 opportunities to take us to a Zen or stressful state of mind.
60,000 opportunities to put our bodies in a place of growth or fear.
60,000 opportunities to create a relax signal or a danger signal.

Depending on your choices, you are either placing your body in a state of alignment with fertility or with infertility.

Perfection is NOT required.

If you can take 51% of the opportunities to move toward peace, Zen, or growth, you are well on your way to creating an internal environment that is in alignment with fertility.

If you take 51% of the opportunities to surrender, let go, trust, open to receive, expect what you want, amplify your fertility, or play in the present moment (all pillars of Be-ing Fertile), you are well on your way to the consistency that will powerfully impact your fertility.

Is it simple? Perhaps.
Is it easy? No.

We have a life time of habits of thought that take us to feeling fear, worry, anxiety, and more.

So what do you do? Use all the Mind~Body~Spirit tools you possibly can:

Meditations
Yoga
Breathing Exercises
Guided Imagery
EFT (to release the patterns of thought that create fear, worry, anxiety)
Acupuncture

All of these will help you create a consistency of thought that will bring your Mind~Body~Spirit into harmony, build your Be-ing Fertile state of being, and align you with your baby.

Remember, I am asking you for consistency, not perfection. You do not need to be the master on the mountaintop to conceive.

I ask you to simply become aware of how you are directing your 60,000 thoughts each day and set the intention that 51% of them bring you towards Be-ing Fertile.

As you are working to build your family, you have so many options as to how to improve your fertility.

One danger I see is people doing as many different modalities as possible while not paying attention to the “why” of the modality. In other words, “ticking” the box of doing that particular modality without truly integrating it in, so it has the possibility of doing what it was designed to do.

For example, including relaxation or visualization.

The whole point of doing relaxation and/or visualization is to stop the danger signals that are going on in your body. The Relaxation Response shifts the internal chemistry of your body, which in turn, supports, nurtures, and amplifies your fertility.

However, if you are doing the relaxation exercise and then following it up with chaotic days, continual angry, stressful, or anxious thoughts, or multi-tasking through the exercise, the results become null and void.

No judgment, but are you allowing the methods you are using to amplify your fertility, the ability to actually work?

Difficulty with infertility is your body telling you something is out of balance within your body (same as if someone has cancer, heart problems, or diabetes). What is your body telling you? What is your body truly asking for to shift that imbalance?

As humans, we resist change. We want what we want when we want it, without having to make any changes in our lives. I get it. I’m the same way.

You are here and part of the Anji community because you have interest in creating fertility within your body through a Mind~Body~Spirit approach.

If you are willing, I am going to suggest some questions to journal with or simply sit lightly on your consciousness to help you ease into an integration and/or commitment that will change your fertility.

  1. What kind of imbalance is my infertility reflecting to me? Is it in the area of the body, the mind, or the spirit?
  2. What is one step I can take today to bring myself more into Mind~Body~Spirit balance?
  3. What can shift in my life outside of fertility to match the new skills / thought patterns I am learning within my fertility quest?

If you were to add up the thoughts you think during any given day, do you think the average would be more about what you want or what you don’t want?

If you are thinking about what you want, do you find you are thinking those thoughts from a place of expectation or yearning?

If you can hold your thoughts of what you want from a place of expectation for at least 51% of the time, you are creating momentum towards what you want. Any percentage above 51%, you are accelerating your momentum.

I’m hopeful you truly absorbed the 51%. What this means is: you don’t have to be perfect in your thoughts. You simply have to be intentional.

How do you hold thoughts of what you want when you’ve been trying to have a baby for so long?

Allow your emotions to lead the way.

Let me give you an example.

How will having a baby make you feel? Happy? Relieved? Ecstatic? Maternal? Joyful?

Once you have your feeling state identified, set an intention each morning to create this emotional state throughout the day. This intention sets the ball rolling within your subconscious to bring evidence to your conscious mind that will support your intention.

You’ll begin to be aware of all the events happening within your day-to-day life that already bring you this emotion. As you build your experience of the emotion, you will build your expectation that you will continue to have more experiences with that emotion.

As your expectation builds, two extraordinary changes happen. First, you create a cascade of physiological changes within your body that support fertility. Second, you shift your ability to receive your desires from the universe.

Ready to set your intention?

Which Way Street SignYou can have your mind focused in one of two general attitudes, as you are moving through the process of building your family:

  1. There is something WRONG here. This shouldn’t be happening. I need to figure out what’s wrong so I can fix it. I’m the only one who can solve this broken part of me and I have to keep pushing to do it.
  2. My system is out of balance, but I know inherently that I am a fertile woman. I don’t know how or when, but I’m going to be a Mother. I open to all the resources that will help me come back into balance.

When you focus on the first, the messages constantly activate the stress response in your body because you are constantly telling your body that there is something dangerous happening in your life. You also are focused in a ‘doing’ frame of mind.

When you focus on the second, you allow your body to be in a state of being, which amplifies its ability to heal and to be in alignment with the actions needed to open your fertility.

Switching from one mind focus to the other does take some perseverance because after all, dealing with challenges to building your family is emotional — and stressful.

Build your tool kit with all kinds of tools like relaxation exercises, emotion shifting tools, belief changers, awareness builders, etc., to help you keep coming back to the knowing that you are going to be a Mother to the family you desire.

Let me start by saying: You do not have to visualize in order to become pregnant. You only want to include tools that get you:

  1. To a better feeling place (because that’s when your body has the optimal environment to support reproduction).
  2. To move to a place of belief that you will receive what you want.

Visualization is an incredibly powerful tool to do both. However, when you have been trying to get pregnant for a long time, the built up history and emotions can make it hard to achieve either of these.

In reality, using visualization can lead you to end up feeling sadder than before. So you stop using the tool, because after all, you aren’t achieving either #1 or #2, why continue?

When you feel sad, the typical reaction is to stop thinking about whatever you are thinking about and of course, why wouldn’t you? However, if you can stay with the emotion for just a bit, you’ll be able to receive some information that will help you uncover underlying patterns that are creating the sadness and might also be impacting your fertility.

When you are feeling sad, you could be bumping up into one of the following thought patterns:

  1. You are focusing hard on the HOW and WHEN your pregnancy will happen. (“I can’t do this much longer; I only have resources for one IVF, it HAS to happen now; I’m running out of time; my chances are only going down each month.”)
  2. Part of you doesn’t really believe you can have what you want.
  3. You are time traveling into the past or the future.
  4. You are creating the reasons why you aren’t pregnant yet (don’t deserve, not enough, etc.) that the wise, connected part of you won’t believe and so you end up separating from your inner wisdom, which creates more sadness.
  5. Your personal thought pattern.

The key is to be curious about what thoughts are creating your sadness.

Once you know the thought pattern, now you can start shifting the pattern. One tool I love for this is EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique). You can read more about it here.

Most of us try to deal with sadness by pushing it away or avoiding the external source. If you can stay curious, the powerful emotion of sadness will share a lot with you, which ultimately can shift the underlying beliefs that may even be affecting your fertility.

Blank SignsHow often are you certain that you KNOW what’s going to happen?

I am not talking about the ‘crystal ball’ type of seeing the future. What I am talking about are the times when you are certain you know what the outcome of a situation is going to be:

If my FSH turns out over 10, I KNOW I’ll never be able to get pregnant.
If I don’t get this project done and done well, I’m going to get fired.
If I don’t go to this event, my friends are never going to forgive me.

So, I’ve dramatized the situations a little bit to make a point. Yours may be a little more subtle:

If I don’t get to sleep, tomorrow is going to be a disaster.
If I don’t get the cat to the vet soon, the vet is going to think I’m a terrible caretaker.
If I don’t get these phone calls made before bed, everyone is going to be angry at me.

Are all of these really true?

95% of the time—NO.

So why do we do this to ourselves?

  • Habit.
  • We think it will motivate us.
  • Feels true in the moment.
  • Caught up in the moment.
  • It keeps us moving.

While all of these are legitimate reasons, they themselves aren’t always true. Predicting the future, no matter how small an issue, simply leads to increasing the stress response in your body. A little stress response is helpful—too much takes you over the edge. Too much decreases your productivity and gets you caught in the loop of things seeming worse and worse.

What if you could let go of making predictions about the results of your actions? What if you could simply do the activities or tasks without making a dire consequence?

How much more effective do you think you could be without the extra weight and pressure of predicting the future?

Emotions. Dealing with fertility issues creates so many emotions.

These emotions can wreck havoc with your desire to stay focused on what you want. Sometimes you know exactly why you’re feeling how you’re feeling; other times, emotions can just feel like a knot or a block, and you don’t know why you’re feeling that way.

At times like these, I like to use a breathing technique.

You can use your breath to help clear away your thoughts, or interrupt a downward spiral of emotion. Breathing techniques are wonderful because you can use them anytime, anywhere.

Try these breathing patterns to help you let go of whatever you are feeling and create the space you need to start on a different feeling path.

  1. Breathe in for a count of (4), hold your breath for a count of (8), and then blow out for a count of (7).
  2. Breathe in for a count of (4), hold your breath for a count of (16), and blow out for a count of (8).

Choose one of the patterns and do each cycle (3) times. As you are holding your breath, imagine your breath is reaching in and grabbing onto whatever you don’t want in your mind or your body, then you can blow it all away on your out breath.

How do you feel when you are finished?

A very common reaction when you begin learning how your thoughts and emotions affect your fertility is to say, “You mean you’re telling me it’s all my fault? It’s all my fault that my health or my life isn’t the way I want?”

From there it is so easy to slip into feeling guilty and shameful (“How could I have let myself think like this?” or “Why didn’t I know this sooner?”), or to begin to slip into anger at being blamed. “Why in the world would I ever choose to have fertility issues?” “What series of thoughts or beliefs would I ever choose to have that would lead to miscarriage or loss?”

Here’s the thing: it’s not a conscious choice. Of course, you would never consciously choose these outcomes, these challenges. Your web of thoughts, emotions, and beliefs (dating back to your experiences as a very young child) affects your fertility at a subconscious level.

Mind~Body connection does NOT mean you are consciously choosing to have difficulty conceiving. There’s absolutely no blame; simply an opportunity to learn how to positively affect your fertility now you are aware of factors that used to be outside of your control.

Mind~Body connection does NOT mean you are causing fertility issues because of not being able to handle life’s everyday ups and downs. It’s not as simple as just relaxing more.

That doesn’t change the fact, though, that feeling blamed is the number one reason why people leave Mind~Body information behind.

Mind~Body work is about realizing the power of your thoughts and beliefs, and choosing to take responsibility for your own thoughts and emotions from this point forward.

It is about looking at your underlying thoughts and beliefs to see what is creating the dis-ease in your day-to-day life. Then once you have that knowledge, learning how to use that same connection to create the emotional and physical health you want.

But responsibility is NOT about judging your thoughts and emotions by assigning fault, blame, shame. Or, allowing someone else to judge you and invalidate your feelings and experiences because it’s “your fault. “In fact, all of these work against the very goal you are working to achieve.

Though, so many of us were raised to believe creating shameful thoughts about ourselves would motivate us to do more, to achieve more. However, motivation through shame leaves behind scars that create even more physical or emotional dis-ease.

Mind~Body work is about learning to look at this unconscious web of thoughts, emotions, and beliefs, and take responsibility for your emotions now that you know how they can affect your fertility. This means you don’t have to feel like a victim anymore. There are concrete steps you can take to creating the physical and emotional health you desire. How empowering is that?

I want to leave you with this idea: The fertility you have today is in part a product of your thoughts and emotions from yesterday. What you think about and experience today creates your fertility of tomorrow. Are you ready?

When you aren’t receiving something that you’ve been working so hard to achieve, one of the aspects that can be “off” in your psyche is the concept of what it means to “want.”

Is it okay to “want”?

Do we all really deserve what we want?

Is it fair to say that everyone who “wants” a baby should receive one?

Many spiritual traditions and let’s face it, many parents and society in general, instill in us the message: it’s not okay to want. It’s selfish to want. You don’t always get what you want. Don’t get your hopes up.

But is it really true?

In my Spiritual journey, I’ve learned something completely to the opposite: wanting is what helps your soul evolve. As you develop new wants and allow yourself to align with them, you are developing and growing not just yourself, but the world as a whole.

These types of wants range from material to the esoteric.

Wants are driving your growth and what you are receiving. You’re literally wired to want.

“But, Jennifer,” you say, “I’ve wanted a baby for a long time now, why aren’t I receiving what I want?”

Sometimes it takes a while for wants to manifest in physical form. As humans, we like to give meaning, so we create beliefs about the fact that the baby isn’t present yet: “I must not deserve this.” Or, “I’m not good enough to deserve this.” Or, any other combination or permutation of those messages.

Here’s what I want you to realize: when you make a decision like that, you are literally working against your Self and your Soul. When you carry these beliefs deep within your system, the Universe is going to bring more experiences that match this belief.

You are setting up beliefs that make it even harder to get what you want. This, of course, tends to seem to prove the belief.

The place to start is knowing: “I deserve what I want. I choose to receive what I want.”

What other beliefs about wanting are you now ready to release?

As humans, we crave meaning. We need to know WHY something is happening. Perhaps it’s the thought that if we know the “why,” we’ll know the “how” to solve the issue that fuels the search.

Sometimes, though, the unresolved search for meaning leads to considerable stress and leads us to ask questions that are even more difficult to answer. Because they are difficult to answer, we often “make up” our own meanings that come more from our wounded self than from Truth.

A question that often comes up when I speak to clients is: “Is it possible that I’m just not supposed to have children? Maybe God doesn’t want me to have children?” Sometimes clients have already decided they are being punished by God. Or simply, children aren’t part of their life purpose.

If this is something you have been thinking about, here’s my suggestion.

When you are dealing with an issue as charged as infertility or loss, it is easy for the hurt part of your mind to give you an answer that isn’t true.

To get a true answer, schedule a time when you can go somewhere very quiet and a place that you feel most connected with your higher power. Spend several minutes just breathing. Allow yourself to come into this present moment. Then, in whatever way feels most comfortable and authentic, connect with your higher power.

When you feel the connection, ask the question: are children part of my life path?

Notice the impulses and intuition that you receive.

Connecting and asking the question from a quiet and centered space is the only way to get a clear answer. This allows you to get an answer that is not from your conscious mind or the part of you that has been hurt over and over.

No matter what your question, this process will help you receive answers; and you will stay out of the negative downward stress spiral that comes when the hurt part of you is trying desperately to answer the question.
