More About Age and Fertility

Last week I had an e-mail from a client who had stumbled across an article online in which several reproductive endocrinologists were detailing the dwindling chances of conceiving in your 30’s and 40’s.
Then, just today, I was doing some research for an upcoming Abundant Fertility Healing and Support call, and came across an article detailing how infertility was reaching women even in their 20’s. It described how women in their 20’s are seeking treatment for infertility after only five months of trying on their own because they know their fertility is only going to get worse.
This just makes me want to scream. This constant mantra of “age, age, age, age, age” only serves to create fear and worry.
From a big picture vision, someone who is 27 has a different fertility rate than someone who is 47. However, the problem is with this constant screaming about age, it’s created a huge sense of daily pressure. This daily fear and pressure has a much more significant affect on your reproduction today than the turning of a new month on the calendar. Your fertility isn’t leaking away on a daily basis.
You literally can’t do anything about your biologic age. However, the main problem doctors relate to age is egg quality.
You can do something about egg quality. Increasing the blood flow to your uterus and your ovaries will positively impact your overall egg quality. Introducing regular mind~body work, including the relaxation response will do both. Releasing your underlying fears and negative beliefs will reduce the stress response in your body, positively impacting your reproductive system.
You are going to continue to hear about age. Here are three keys to shifting your thoughts/beliefs to balance the messages you hear about age:
- Step more into trust of your body and of the power of the mind~body connection.
- Remember, when doctors are speaking about age, they are speaking in general terms, not specific to you.
- Focus more on what you want than the obstacles in obtaining it.

Thank you for this post. I am turning 40 in a few months, and have been struggling with “unexplained secondary infertility” for the past 3 years. This is a great help – now if I could just convince my heart to listen to my mind!
You mention about increasing blood flow to the uterus and ovaries – do you have ideas to do this? I have heard about baby aspirin, but not tried it. I do acupuncture and chinese herbs.
Thanks again for your support and resource – it shines a light in my otherwise dark journey!
Acupuncture is a wonderful way to increase blood flow.
From my perspective, another wonderful way to increase blood flow is through regular eliciting of the Relaxation Response. Basically, this physiological response in your body is the exact opposite of what happens when you are under stress. Guided imagery, meditation, relaxation exercises all help to create this response.
I hope this is helpful.
Many blessings,
Jennifer
Presently, I am 45 and I have never had a child nor have I ever been pregnant. Me and my husband have been trying for years and little has worked to change my status as a “mom-to-be” BUT, I have made some significant changes that makes me feel that I can change this…let me explain:
I used to have crazy months in my menstrual cycle: Some months 28, some moths 35, then 33, then 36, then 29, then 33, then 32, etc. etc. It made figuring out when I would ovulate tough and then my luteal phase was often cut short. I knew this was very bad.
I was able to figure out what vitamins and minerals that I have been missing and since then, I can place my monthly cycle right smack on the calendar and KNOW exactly when and what is happening….this was NEVER the case in my 20’s or in my 30’s…NEVER.
Not only that – my periods had only ever lasted about 2 days. Now – I am up to 3 solid days of a period. I’ve managed to effect this in such a great way that the hot flashes I had during PMS are now gone… hopefully, forever!
I think it is just a matter of time now. I am going again to acupuncture and I think it will be effective this time. Prayer helps, as does meditation and positive thinking!
Laura – thank you so much for sharing these positive changes your body is going through *despite* what the calendar says about your age. Please keep us updated!
Many blessings,
Jennifer
